In a heated moment during the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cincinnati Bengals game, veteran Steelers defensive back Jalen Ramsey was ejected after throwing a punch at Bengals star Ja’Marr Chase. The dramatic incident unfolded during a timeout in the fourth quarter, following a series of escalating verbal exchanges between the two. According to reports, Ramsey claimed that Chase spat on him before the altercation, a serious accusation that could carry disciplinary consequences under NFL rules.
Ramsey’s ejection came at a critical moment. The penalty not only removed a key player from the field but awarded the Bengals a 15-yard penalty and an automatic first down — a costly blow for the Steelers’ defense.
The tension between the two had been simmering throughout the game. Ramsey, who recently transitioned from cornerback to free safety for Pittsburgh, has been a central figure in the Steelers’ defensive strategy. But according to Coach Mike Tomlin, finding an effective plan to contain Chase remains an “ongoing development.”
Post-game, Ramsey addressed his frustration with officiating, admitting that he must “play better” but also criticizing what he saw as leniency toward the Bengals’ receivers:
“Don’t worry about the calls … We have to play better … When the opportunity presents itself.”
As for Chase, he has denied Ramsey’s claim of being spat on, and the NFL is expected to review the incident for any potential discipline.
This isn’t Ramsey’s first on-field controversy. Known for his fiery personality, he’s been ejected before for similar confrontations.
